Sky Dancer 4.2.0

Hip Fracture Express

I haven't played a rail runner in a while, and after trying out Sky Dancer, I immediately felt a longing desire to play Subway Surfers again. The constant running and jumping had an almost hypnotizing effect; calming in a way, exhilarating in another.

In Sky Dancer, you are not simply running running and jumping, switching lanes from time to time. You are jumping off and on stone tracks, suspended in the air. The controls don't go beyond Left, Right and Jump, but unlike other runners, your character does not 'snap' in position. While holding left or right, your character will drift in that direction naturally. Although there's always a single 'lane', drifting is useful in order to collect coins, avoid obstacles and pitfalls.

Sky Dancer

Speaking of pitfalls, the running lanes are not very long, so you'll be forced to jump off them rather often. Jumping is usually fairly easy to perform, as you will always have a visual cue for the optimal jumping position. However, landing is a whole other issue. While some platforms are placed straight in continuation of the one you jump off, for the majority you will need to make adjustments in mid air. This is not as easy as a sidestep. Inertia combined with the lack of a stereoscopic perspective make these jumps the most dangerous parts of the run. I dare to say they're a combination of luck and timing, as heights vary and it sometimes unclear on which platform you're suppose to land.

Conclusion

I wasn't much impressed by Sky Dancer. That's not because there's no dancing involved, but because the difficulty level seems to progress rather arbitrarily, which is rather frustrating for this style of game.
